The Disability Support Team are committed to supporting you if you have a disability, a long-term health condition, mental health condition or a learning difficulty. If you disclose a disability or health condition, you could be entitled to additional support whilst you are studying with us.
We offer tailored support for students who disclose a disability. We will work with you to create a support plan for how we can support you whilst you study with us. This may include:
- Information for your lecturers, so that they can understand how your disability affects you
- Information on how your department can support you to access your course
- Resources so that you can better support your own learning
- Assessment and examination arrangements
We will share this plan with you and with relevant staff so that support can be arranged for you.
When should I contact the Disability Support Team?
You can disclose your disability at any point during your studies. We strongly recommend that you disclose your needs on your application, so that we can put support in place for the start of your course.
If you declare a disability, health condition or learning difficulty on your application form, we will contact you to arrange a meeting with one of our specialist advisers. If you have not disclosed it on your application, you can email the support team to tell us at any point during your studies, and to request a meeting or call with the one of our specialist advisers.
To enable us to put the support in place for you, you will need to provide evidence of your condition. This can be a doctor’s note, a report or an EHCP. (Even though an EHCP will lapse when you start, there is plenty of specialist support available at UCWISE.)
Please get in touch with us so that we can make sure that you access all of the support you are entitled to on your course of study.
If you think you may have dyslexia or another Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), such as dyspraxia, dyscalculia or autism, but have never had a formal assessment, please contact our support team for advice.
